Andrew Lang's Fairy Books or Andrew Lang's "Coloured" Fairy Books constitute a twelve-book series of fairy tale collections. Although Andrew Lang did not collect the stories himself from the oral tradition, the extent of his sources, who had collected them originally (with the notable exception of Madame d'Aulnoy), made them an immensely influential collection, especially as he used foreign-language sources, giving many of these tales their first appearance in English. As acknowledged in the prefaces, although Lang himself made most of the selections, his wife and other translators did a large portion of the translating and telling of the actual stories.

I enjoy hearing these stories however their is a woman who has a very strong accent that makes it really difficult to hear the story I'm sure she's a very nice person but she should not be doing the audiobooks you can't understand every word that she says sorry to have to put this in there

interesting tales - well narrated throughout

excellent readers but not a fan of sanitized stories

Thanks to this book I learned that the fairy stories in the anglophone tradition are often heavily sanitized and have the darker brutal aspects of their folklore origins removed. I was looking forward to hearing new fairy tales I could share with my child, but this is not the style I grew up on, thus I do not enjoy it. To be fair I am criticizing the tone, the writing is perfectly acceptable, and the area these stories are sourced from is impressive. many other reviews criticize readers accents; some readers have non-American non-British accents, but they are perfectly understandable.
