Family Theater Singles
Father Patrick Peyton
Family Theater is a radio program that began on February 13, 1947, created by Father Patrick Peyton. It focused on the power of prayer and its role in family life, featuring various Hollywood stars as guest hosts.
Father Peyton's journey to establish this series included organizing a Mother's Day broadcast in 1945 with Bing Crosby and securing a time slot on the Mutual Broadcasting System. The show was known for its high production quality and was recognized with several awards over the years.
Despite pressures from the Catholic Church hierarchy, Father Peyton maintained a focus on prayer without commercial sponsorship, ensuring the program's integrity. Family Theater continued to air new episodes until at least 1957 and remained in reruns into the 1960s.
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.

The Awakening Episode

When you get to this episode, an excellent one mind you, you will find the last five minutes of the broadcast garbled. The story was about a woman who wants to work and not stay home to care for her family. Suspicious that the ending may have been garbled due to the content, I went to several other websites with that episode and found--miraculously--the ending was not garbled. Someone censored this particular episode. Oh, and by the way, she decided to stay home and care for her family.

Top notch OTR. It is profound to think that not so long ago, the biggest names in Hollywood were willing to volunteer to be a part of such an overtly Christian program. I love OTR in general and am thrilled that this program combines that love with my relationship with God and my devotion to my family. Who could ask for more? Such a great program!
